Park's 2000 - 01 season ends in W.I.A.A. sectional
semi-final play
The varsity team's season came to an end
with a cold shooting 4th quarter in a loss to Wisconsin Lutheran by a
score of 38 - 42. The panthers were leading the whole game until midway
through the 4th quarter when it seem like there was a lid on the Park
basket. The varsity team ends the 2000-01 season as conference champs
and W.I.A.A. regional champs. They conclude the season with a 19 - 4 record.

1999 - 2000 Season
Thank you very much players and
coaching staff for the Big Cookie and the 300th Win Retirement Watch!
Coach Jim Kerkvliet had announced his retirement in the Racine
Journal Times on Tuesday, February 15th, 2000. The Players rewarded
Coach "K" with a 300th win over cross town rival Racine Horlick
on the last regular season game and 300 win Cookie Pie. The coaching staff
gave Coach "K" a 300 Win - Retirement Watch. Coach Kerkvliet
expresses a sincere gratitude to everyone.
The 1999-2000 Varsity team falls one game
short of advancing to the State Tournament
The 1999-2000 Varsity Team fell just short
of a 5th State Tournament appearance. The Panthers played a very tough
first half against Janesville Parker in the Sectional Final game played
at Racine Case on Saturday, March 4th, ending the 1999 - 2000 season just
one game shy of the state tournament. Park trailed by 8 points at half
time. Janesville Parker showed they were worthy of their number 1 state
ranking and number 17 national ranking by pounding the ball inside in
the second half to win by a score of 72 - 45. However, this Park team,
consisting of a lot of 5'5 - 5'6 players and many of them only sophomores,
received a lot of positive comments from the many fans attending this
game. The seniors stepped up in this game and provided some great leadership
and great hustle especially considering the toll their bodies took in
the rough semi-final game the night before. This was the Panthers' 7th
straight sectional final appearance. It was also the final game of coach
Jim Kerkvliet's coaching career at Park High School. The Park Varsity
Team ended it's season with a 15 - 9 record. The great desire shown by
this young and undersized Panther squad in the final 3 weeks of the season
will leave a lasting positive impression.

Tournament Sectional Final
The Varsity team kept the full court pressure on and gradually gained
control of the game in the second half in the sectional semi-final 46
- 36 win over Racine Horlick on Friday, March 3rd in the Park field house.
This was the final appearance in the Park field house for the four Park
seniors - Allisia Stewart, Valerie Valadez, Missy Fredericks, and Nerrissa
Phillips. It also the final appearance in the Park field house for retiring
coach Jim Kerkvliet.
The Panthers take 3 out of 3 at Racine
Horlick
The 1999 - 2000 Park Freshman Team played
an outstanding last 3 quarters to pull away from Racine Horlick at Racine
Horlick to win by a score of 55 - 39 on Friday, February 18th. The Freshman
Team ended the season with a 7 - 10 record. The 1999 - 2000 Sophomore
Team started out with a great 1st quarter to set the pace with a 46
- 39 win. The Sophomore Team concluded a super season with a 16 - 4 record.
The Varsity Team handled adverse conditions during a hard-fought game
to win by a score of 48 - 44. The Panthers concluded regular season play
with a 12 - 8 record. This game was also the 300th career win for Coach
Kerkvliet. Coach Kerkvliet had win number 100 come over Racine Horlick
in a 60 - 61 win in 1990.
1998-99 Season
The varsity team ended it's 1998-99 season
in the W.I.A.A. sectional final tournament on Saturday, March 6th
against Janesville Parker in the Janesville Parker field house.
The score of the game was 43 - 64. Janesville Parker played a nearly flawless
game with 21 point performance of their 6'3 freshman post player, Mistie
Bass. Parker also got some good outside shooting from their perimeter
players. Parker also enjoyed a decided advantage at the free throw line,
making 14 out of twenty-four free throw attempts compared to the 50 per
cent free throw shooting of Racine Park, 1 made out of two free throws
attempted. The Racine Park varsity concluded the 1998-99 season
with a 21 - 3 record. Janesville Parker advanced to the State Tournament
in Madison on March 11th but was eliminated in the State Quarterfinals
by Appleton North.
The 1998-99 freshman team concluded their
season on Friday, February 19th at home against Oak Creek. The
freshman team lost a hard fought game by a score of 28 - 48 to finish
their season at 10 - 7. The 1998-99 sophomore
concluded their season with a 64 - 44 win. The sophomore team capped off
an outstanding season with a 19 - 1 record. The 1998-99 varsity
team finished the regular season as conference champions in the South
division of the Southeast conference with a hard fought 48 - 42 win. Our
seniors were honored on this night as Julie Christensen, Krisey Sanders,
Jackie Peasley, Shannon Honore, and Aisha Hopkins played their last regular
season home game in the Racine Park field house.

We will miss former Park Player, Tallana Keene (Tallana Lockridge). Tallana
was a 1991 graduate who had a 3 pointer rim out at the buzzer that would
have tied the sectional final game with Janesville Parker in her senior
year. Tallana fought a long battle with cancer but moved on to a better
place on December 30th, 2000. We have a lot of fond memories and will
miss her.
